Schoenhut's owners, Renee and Len Trinca, receiving a NAMM "Milestone Award" for 135 Years of Service in the music products industry.

Since 1996, Len & Renee Trinca have overseen the operations at Schoenhut Piano Company.  The two still call it a labor of love and enjoy the thrill of designing, manufacturing and marketing these precious little toy instruments. For nearly 20 years Schoenhut’s operation has been nestled and run on the outskirts of downtown historic Saint Augustine, Florida.

Along with many of Albert Schoenhut’s original designs, including the famous toy piano, they now offer a variation of other toy instruments in different styles and colors. All prototypes today are designed and hand-built by Len Trinca. His work is state-of-the-art and incorporates perfect pitch and true piano sound, the only piano of its kind in the world. Although Albert Schoenhut started designing musical instruments with children in mind, professional musicians regard Schoenhut toy pianos as serious concert instruments.

John Cage started the ball rolling in 1948 when he composed "Suite for Toy Piano." Since then, interest has skyrocketed.  This trend has given a new perspective about Schoenhut and attests to the high quality of our products. We believe in 100% customer satisfaction.

Schoenhut’s reputation for making safe toys and high quality products has been a trademark of the company since 1872.

History

Albert Schoenhut was born in 1848 in Wurtenburg, Germany to a toy-making family.  His father and grandfather made wooden dolls, rocking horses and wagons.

At a very young age Albert began making toy pianos in his home. He was discovered for his talent as only a teen, got his hand in the backend of the business, and in 1872 struck out on his own with Schoenhut Piano Company. As his toy piano business grew he added other instruments to include: ukulele-banjo, xylophone, glockenspiel and more.

By the time of Schoenhut’s death in 1912, Schoenhut Piano Company was the largest toy company in America and the first in the U.S. to import toys from Germany. Having gone through a string of owners after Albert’s death, in 1984 Frank Trinca purchased the company.

He continued manufacturing many of the models that Albert Schoenhut brought us from the early 1900’s.  After 12-years in business Frank wanted to incorporate new concepts as well as expand the business, to help fulfill this vision his brother Len Trinca and wife Renee acquired ownership in 1996. Frank has stayed on as a consultant.
