Free Weights
Free weights are a type of exercise equipment that consist of dumbbells, barbells, and weight plates that are not attached to any machine or apparatus. They are called "free" weights because they allow for a greater range of motion and freedom of movement compared to weight machines, which have a fixed range of motion.
Free weights are used for a variety of exercises, such as squats, deadlifts, bench presses, bicep curls, and shoulder presses, among others.
Free weights come in different shapes, sizes, and materials:
- Dumbbells are handheld weights that typically range from 1 to 100 pounds each, and can be adjusted in weight by adding or removing weight plates. There are also all-in-one adjustable dumbbells where you do not need to add weight plates but simply select the desired weight you want.
- Barbells are long metal bars that can also be loaded with weight plates, and are used for exercises such as squats, deadlifts, and bench presses.
- Weight plates are round metal disks that are attached to dumbbells and barbells to increase the amount of weight lifted.
All you need are a couple of weights and a little empty space, and you can perform hundreds of exercises to strengthen every core muscle in your body.
