Pros and cons

First off, we have two Joy Rider trikes, one with no gears and only a hand brake, that stays at the group home, and the new one, for home visits. I have to strap his feet in, and that is easier, with the no gear trike, as I can easily move the peddles, backwards to get just the right position for both feet, with the gears, I have to go a about it a bit differently, making sure the first peddle, is just right then have him peddle a bit forward and then tighten the straps again…For going up the inclines, it’s helpful and to go a bit faster, on the slight down hills.. The biggest plus, is the foot break, which the no gear trike, doesn’t have.. There’s a place we ride, a slight decline with gravel, where the front break only, doesn’t keep him in control, but the foot break does, so for that alone, getting the foot break is important.. So, the only real downside, is when I have to strap his feet in, and just the left foot, that can’t move well or bend..Still doable, and I’m getting better at that.. As for me, I love riding the trike and with the gears, have an easier time going up a little hill to the recycle, and on my way back, feel much more in control, with the foot break and gears to keep up a reasonable speed..
